“The Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) campaigns for justice for the Palestinians. This year, on the 60th anniversary of the Nakba, the 1948 dispossession of the Palestinians’ homeland, they are building a mass solidarity movement which aims to bring about changes in consciousness, policies and actions in Britain and internationally.”

This piece was shot during a march through central London on 16th May 2009. The demonstration route started at Mallet Street and ended 4 hours later in Trafalgar Square. The Palestinians were understandably passionate and vocal but there was no violence or disorder in evidence. A number of children were also present during the protest and the atmosphere was friendly. Food was on offer and music was played, contributing at times to a festival feel.

The police presence was very strong, with a lot of officers clearly on standby, but in general they kept a low profile and seemed to be on very good terms with the organizers, photographers and public.
